Manchester City has officially announced the signing of midfielder Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest on a five-year deal. The 23-year-old expressed his determination to make the move happen, stating he had no hesitation when presented with the opportunity to join what he described as “one of the biggest clubs in the world.” His contract with City is set to run until June 2031.
The transfer fee for Anderson was £116m, a club record for City, surpassing the £100m paid for Jack Grealish in 2021. This deal was initially poised to make Anderson the most expensive British player in history, but it was later eclipsed by Morgan Rogers’ £117m transfer from Aston Villa to Chelsea. City secured Anderson’s signature despite competition from Manchester United.

Anderson’s move to Manchester City follows a period of significant development in his career. He joined Nottingham Forest from Newcastle United in 2024 for £35m. Last season, Anderson led the Premier League in several key statistics, including most touches with 3,300, most duels won with 297, and winning possession with 306. He believes he brings “a bit of everything” to the team, including quality, physicality, and energy, and hopes to excite the supporters. He also mentioned that Kevin De Bruyne, who departed City two summers ago, was an idol for him, and he had always wanted to play like him.
Anderson has already set his sights on the first Manchester derby of the new season, scheduled for 13 September, as a standout fixture. He referred to Manchester City as the “kings of Manchester” in an interview on the club’s website, a statement that may garner a strong reaction from Old Trafford faithful.
