The injury to Joe Gomez was a significant concern for Iraola, who described it as “the worst news.” Gomez, the club’s longest-serving player, will undergo scans to determine the extent of the injury. This incident further highlighted Liverpool’s limited options in central defence, with captain Virgil van Dijk on holiday, Giovanni Leoni recovering from an ACL injury, and new signing Jeremy Jacquet sidelined with a minor knock.
Ifeanyi Ndukwe replaced Gomez, forming a defensive partnership with Mor Talla Ndiaye. Both young defenders were signed in January. Ndukwe, who joined from Austria Vienna, and Ndiaye, from Amitie, performed admirably despite the circumstances. However, Ndukwe will not be available for the upcoming season in the UK due to work permit requirements and is expected to be sent out on loan.

The match also provided an opportunity for several young players to impress. Beyond Morrison and Koumas, James McConnell and Trey Nyoni were noted for their performances in midfield.
